New data model for sharing information and services
on mobile devices
“Enhancing customer experience across all type of mobile devices was Telecom Italia Mobile’s main priority. Using onStage API Management as an orchestrator they were able to fully utilize the advantages of the existing infrastructure, despite its complexity, without changes to the infrastructure and without concerns about where information was retrieved.”
TIM needed to adopt an MBE solution (Mobile Back-End) to integrate their mobile apps with enterprise and legacy database systems, to manage specific business logic within the mobile apps, and to orchestrate services and processes. Telecom Italia Information Technology, a subsidiary of TIM, a group highly specialized in ITC products and services, identified and recommended onStage API Management as the best possible MBE solution for TIM.
The solution
For this reason, TIM uses onStage as their sole mobile app development platform.
onStage has enabled Telecom Italia to:
- Build a data model that merges all available information into a single deliverable or entity allowing TIM, to work with that single entity and not trying to utilize a number of pieces of disconnected information
- Use an orchestrator without changing the existing infrastructure and without needing to be concerned about where and how information has been retrieved
- Develop apps applicable to all mobile platforms available on the market currently and in the future, in order to ensure the best high quality customer experience
- Develop apps with codes that could easily be re-used in other applications
- Ensure a positive ROI
The results
Since using onStage, Telecom has released 8 different Native Apps that ensure the best user experience possible: the experience each user expects. For this reason the Apps have received very positive feedback from users, who particularly appreciate the responsiveness of the Apps due to their Native nature.
The Business Logic for all these Apps was developed once and used broad spectrum: this is one of the advantages of using automatically generated libraries.
All interfaces are customized on the basis of all 70 possible user profiles. The 108 back-end services involved were not originally designed for the functionalities the Apps had to deliver; but thanks to the self-contained onStage architecture it was not necessary to redesign the existing infrastructure.
The security techniques used by onStage allowed the use of various back-end services that were not originally meant to be exposed.
